This month's Woman Warrior nomination goes to Kimberley Jev. When asked what it means to be a Woman Warrior, Kim responded, "It means getting up despite the fall." For Kim, this goes far beyond the feat of "never give up." In her pledge, Kim explains, "I have loved and I have suffered for it. I have been broken to the bottom. I have battled homelessness, battled fame and fortune..battled losing fame and fortune, lost the love of my life to addiction, lost my self-confidence and fought suicidal thoughts." All of Kim's devastating hardships, however, have molded her into the shining example of a Woman Warrior that she is today.
Throughout her life, Kim has managed to overcome a great deal of adversity. In her pledge, she explains that despite her battle with Bipolar disorder and depression, she continues fights every day for her right to live. At the age of 21, she launched her own fashion and lifestyle media company. By age 28, she won several awards for media personality, and for media coverage of fashion news that spread as far as Canada. During these years, she gathered many accomplishments and was on the road to fame and fortune.
Around this same time, Kim met and fell in love with a beautiful man who was struggling with the crippling fate of having been born addicted to drugs. Through many trials and an immeasurable amount of unconditional love, they were able to walk on a path towards recovery. In January of 2015, Kim received the heartbreaking phone call that nobody wants to get. She joined the club of widowhood and sank into the depths of depression and hopelessness.
Today, Kim feels stronger and more resilient than she has ever been in her life. She has made it her mission to help other women overcome addiction and abusive situations of all degrees.
Kim's goal is to use her story to empower and inspire women in her community by turning her suffering into strength for those that have endured similar situations. She explains, "I want women to understand that even though they may have been a victim of a circumstance, recovery is possible and salvation is real."
